Dr. Brooks Prays for Second Doctor
Aired March 7, 2012, CBS News Correspondent Byron Pitts interviewing Dr. Anne Brooks, 73, about her 28-year mission to serve the poor.
Brooks is the only doctor in the tiny town of Tutwiler, Mississippi, working 12 hour days, seven days a week, seeing approximately 8,500 patients a year from across the Mississippi Delta, where many of the people there live in poverty and can't afford health care.
Mississippi has the highest rate of infant mortality and obesity in the entire nation. One out of 3 people in this county lives in poverty and 7 out of 10 who walk through Brooks door have no way to pay.
Last year Dr. Brooks spent $48,000, which came from generous donations, buying medicine for those who couldn't afford it but would have died if they hadn't received the care.
For nearly three decades, Brooks has been providing love and vital care to those in need of both, what she really prays for now, is a second doctor, to help with the work and to someday be there to replace her when that time comes.
Answer Dr. Brooks long unanswered prayer by telling others.
A couple suggestions in spreading the news, link this page to your FaceBook or Twitter account, email it to those you know, whatever you do will greatly improve the chances of making her dream come true.
