Ten Best and Worst Foods

Food has the potential to affect your physical health, emotional well-being and mental acuity.  Choose wisely.

The best foods are cancer-protective and longevity-favorable and, if consumed regularly, will contribute to maintaining ideal weight, achieving super immunity and promoting overall well-being.

Ten Best Foods:
  1. Green Leafy Vegetables (kale, collard greens, swiss chard, mustard greens, spinach, lettuce)
  2. Non-leafy Cruciferous Vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage)
  3. Berries
  4. Beans
  5. Mushrooms
  6. Onions
  7. Seeds (Flax seeds, chia, hemp, sesame, sunflower, pumpkin)
  8. Nuts (walnuts, pistachio, pine-nuts, almonds, cashews)
  9. Tomatoes
  10. Pomegranates
But the worst foods can be the leading causes of death, including cancer, diabetes and heart diseases.  The wrong foods can be as addictive as drugs and alcohol and can cause us to lead lives that provide only a fraction of our potential for health, energy level and physiological well-being.

Ten Worst Foods:
  1. Full-fat Dairy (cheese, ice cream, butter, whole milk)
  2. Trans Fat Containing Foods (stick margarine, shortening, fast foods, commercial baked goods)
  3. Doughnuts
  4. Sausage, Hot Dogs, and Luncheon Meats
  5. Smoked Meat, Barbecued Meat and Conventionally-raised Red Meat
  6. Fried Foods including Potato Chips and French Fries
  7. Highly-salted Foods
  8. Soda
  9. Refined White Sugar
  10. Refined White Flour

Childhood Obesity - Don't Let Your Child Fall in These Numbers

Overweight Children and Childhood Obesity are running wild, just take a look at the numbers:

40% of overweight children will develop metabolic syndrome, which sets the stage for diabetes and heart problems.  Metabolic syndrome includes; abnormal lipids, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and obesity.  There is hope, when children lose even modest amounts of weight, it can reverse the negative effects of metabolic syndrome.

1 in 3 American children born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

5 hours of daily television is watched by almost half of all U.S. children between the ages of 8 and 18.

80% chance a teen will become overweight, if one parent is obese or overweight.

In the past 30 years, Fast Food consumption in the U.S. has risen 500%, while the number of children who are obese has tripled.

$100 Billion is the estimated annual cost to society for obesity.

70% chance that an overweight or obese child has of becoming an overweight or obese adult.

What can be done?  As a parent, you must set an example for your child/children in choosing healthy natural nutritious foods and drinks.  You can definitely set the stage for your child to make the right choices when it comes to what goes in his/her mouth.

Did you know that a study from the University of Rochester Medical Center found that nearly 60% of adolescents ate only one fruit or vegetable a day.

Parents, if you have a small child at home, make sure they are being introduced to fruits and vegetables in their diets, not processed snack foods.  It starts in the home, you can make a difference for your chid's health future.

And when it comes to offering soda or sugary drinks to your child, choose not to, instead, promote water, everyones bodies need it.

MD-Logic Artificial Pancreas Tested

Prof. Moshe Phillip, director of the Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Schneider  Children's Medical Center, demonstrates MD-Logic on a young patient.
The MD-Logic, developed by Eran Atlas along with Prof. Moshe Phillip, Dr. Revital Nimri and Shahar Miller of the Schneider Children's Medical Center in Tel Aviv, mimics the workings of the pancreas, monitoring blood sugar levels and delivering insulin automatically, even at night.
The MD-Logic is the first system of its kind to be tried outside the hospital with resounding success.  Recently the researchers set up a control room at a hotel where 18 Israeli children between the ages of 12 and 15 attended a 3 day camp for children with diabetes.
In type 1 (insulin-dependent, juvenile-onset) diabetes, the pancreas doesn't produce or release insulin as it should, so, in turn, the body can't metabolize sugars properly, meaning, blood sugar levels need continuous monitoring, even while sleeping, when blood sugar readings can get out of control.
The MD-Logic Artificial Pancreas, that "thinks like a doctor", consists of a glucose sensor and an insulin pump connected to a laptop computer that can be carried in a backpack or set beside the bed, monitoring information and stipulating the amount of insulin to be released in order to maintain blood glucose balance.
The next stage is to test the device under supervised conditions in the home setting.
The researchers believe that the MD-Logic will give kids with diabetes and the adults who supervise them, a worry-free night's sleep.
Before being sold in the US, the MD-Logic will need the approval of the FDA.

Chicken Nuggets Are Made How?

In Jordan Rubin's latest book, Live Beyond Organic, he writes of how chicken nuggets are made on pages 35 & 36.  Live Beyond Organic is Jordan Rubin's 24th book on health, he started writing soon after recovering from his diagnosed Crohn's disease, plus he exhibited symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, diabetes, extreme anemia, heart problems, urinary tract and prostate infections, yeast (Candida) overgrowth, parasites, and multiple viral infections.
Jordan writes, "After chicken meat has been removed from the carcasses on the assembly line, there's still a little meat left on the bone, plus some tendons and tissue.  Back in the day, millions of these carcasses were buried in a landfill or burned in an incinerator, but machines were invented to mechanically separate those scraps of meat and muscle fiber."

Jordan goes on to say, "The mechanically separated poultry, or MSP, is run through a grinding machine that turns the meat remnants into a pink goop that resembles strawberry frozen yogurt being dispensed at your local mini-mall.  Nobody wants to bite into pink chicken nuggets, so food colorings and artificial flavorings are added to bring back the whitish color and deliver the taste that we've always associated with cooked chicken breast."

Jordan's biggest problem with conventional meat is that cattle, chicken, and fish are raised and fattened on feed containing hormones, nitrates, and pesticides.  On top of that, livestock and chickens are penned up on "factory farms" that confine thousands of animals in impossibly cramped conditions with zero access to sunlight, fresh air, or natural movement.

Did you know that according to the Grace Factory Farm Project, an estimated 70 percent of all antibiotics in the United States are fed to cattle, poultry, and pigs to promote growth and compensate for the unsanitary and deplorable living conditions on factory farms.

Are Newborns Born Toxic?

Toxic chemicals find way into the womb. Tests of cord blood show newborns have already been exposed to more than 200 potentially hazardous chemicals in the womb.
Bisphenol A is an ingredient in plastic bottles and epoxy resins and can be found in thousands of products, including water bottles, baby bottles, food can linings and dental sealants. The chemical is linked to problems in reproductive development, behavioral problems, obesity, diabetes and even cancer.
Perfluorochemicals are used to create the non-stick surfaces of cooking pans, and are also used for grease and stain protection for carpets and furniture. The class of chemicals is listed by the EPA as a "chemical of concern." Exposure to perfluorochemicals is linked to low birth weight, and possibly even to cancer.
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers are flame retardants found in some televisions and electronics, as well as older furniture and mattresses. The chemical contaminates house dust and is also listed by the EPA as a "chemical of concern." It may affect cognitive abilities and behavior.
Polychlorinated biphenyls, banned since 1976, this pervasive chemical can leach out of landfills and eventually get into the food supply. It is linked to cancer, behavioral problems and damage to the body's nervous system, immune system and chemical signaling system.
Chlorinated dioxins and ethylmercury originate from emissions from power plants and other industries. Dioxins can cause cancer, and mercury can damage nervous system development and stunt intellect.
Methylmercury is found in contaminated fish and seafood. It is linked to cancer and lower motor function, attention and verbal skills among children. source

Autism and Immunizations-Is There a Connection?

In the late 1970s my parents began to research childhood vaccines and made the informed choice to not vaccinate. Even then, they predicted our society would witness first-hand the consequences of a theory implemented without the science to validate its safety and efficacy. But never did they imagine the illness of autism spectrum disorders, which now shadow the lives of millions of American families.

Today autism, a once rare disorder, affects an alarming number of children. In the past two decades the prevalence of autism has reached epidemic proportions in our country. A study released in December 2009 by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that autism prevalence has increased from the 1994 rate of 1 in 150 to 1 in 110 for children born in 1998. This is a staggering 57% increase in just four years. More children are diagnosed with autism than cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. It is indeed the greatest pediatric healthcare concern of the times.

After extensive training and the honor of working with incredible mentors, I founded the American Chiropractic Autism Board. We have an ever-growing panel of advisers who oversee Hope For Autism, a BioNutritional Care Training Conference. It has become my passionate mission to educate my profession about prevention and responsible care for autism.

I hope that someday soon our current traditional view of autism will be a distant memory - like lobotomies and thalidomide. I know that right now I am living my purpose. But more than anything, I hope for a day when there is no longer a need for doctors to provide autism care. Hope For Autism was created with its end in mind. - source - Dr. Renee Tocco

The next Hope For Autism Conference, designed for doctors and families, is April 23 – 25, 2010 in Atlanta, GA. Please visit http://www.hopeforautism.us/ for more information and to register.
