FDA Alert for Excedrin, Bufferin, Gas-X, NoDoz

The FDA, over the years have found problems in the drugs made by the Novartis Consumer Health manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Nebraska and as of Sunday, Novartis has temporarily suspended production at their factory and have recalled:

  • Excedrin and NoDoz products with expiration dates of Dec. 20, 2014, or earlier
  • Bufferin and Gas-X Prevention products with expiration dates of Dec. 20, 2013, or earlier
Novartis wants consumers to discard the pills or to return the products by mail for a full refund, plus Novartis will also apply $2 for shipping costs.  Novartis's site www.nodoz.com/otc/ is available for more information as well as calling the company direct at 888-477-2403, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. EST.

Because of packaging and labeling problems at the plant in Nebraska, Edward Cox of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said early Monday, "it's possible that tablets from one product may have been retained in the packaging machinery, and then may have carried over into the packaging of another medicine, this could result in an incorrect pill of one medicine ending up in the bottle of another product."

The FDA also cited problems with Novartis which included, failures to respond to consumer complaints about bottles containing incorrect tablets, file reports with the FDA and send postage-paid materials to consumers so that further evidence could be examined.  (click here for the full FDA report)

Antibiotic Therapy Risks

According to Dr. James Howenstine, a board certified specialist in internal medicine, he writes in his article entitled "ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF BREAST CANCER", that having a healthy gastrointestinal tract is a key component for good health. He goes on to say that he believes all antibiotics kill healthy intestinal bacteria and when these bacteria are killed, they are replaced in the intestines by more dangerous anaerobic bacteria, parasites, fungi, yeast and mycoplasma. In addition, our ability to kill cancer cells is probably being compromised by decreased production of intestinal immune cells, since more than 70% of our immune system cells reside in the intestine.

Dr. Howenstine further sites a study from the JAMA that revealed that women who have taken antibiotics are at an increased risk for developing breast cancer.

Dr. Howenstine also believes that long term use of antibiotics may be the primary reason why patients with Lyme Disease are now frequently being discovered to have lymphomas. Suppressed activity of killer lymphocytes related to decreased production of immune cells by damaged intestines whose health has been compromised by loss of healthy intestinal flora could be a key contributing factor to the lymphoma problem. source

HealthIsInReach has a couple of suggestions:
1. For increased immune system response, we suggest Beta-1,3D Glucan.
2. For help with bacteria, parasites, fungi and yeast overgrowth, we suggest the Advanced ERE.
3. For help with lymphomas and cancer, we suggest the FIR Dome and/or Original Sun Ancon Chi Machine.

Why are Hospitals Breeding Grounds for Germs?

In the United States, more than 2 million people are affected by hospital-acquired infections every year, and 100,000 people die as a result.

Recent studies have shown that contaminated medical devices and spreading germs from patient to patient are keys to the growth of hospital-acquired infections.

Doctors and nurses not washing their hands prior to touching a patient is the most common violation in hospitals. As few as 40 percent of staff members comply with hand-washing standards, with doctors being the worst offenders, according to findings by The Times.

Doctor's ties and even their white coats have also been implicated as potential causes of infection. At the University of Maryland, the Wall Street Journal reported that 65% of medical workers said they change their lab coats less than once a week, even though knowing they were contaminated. Fifteen percent said they change their lab coat less than once a month, even though superbugs, like staph, can survive on them for nearly 60 days.

Going to the hospital should always be viewed as the option of last resort, when you have exhausted all others. It is in these health care settings that superbugs like MRSA run rampant. It is becoming increasingly common for healthy people to enter a hospital for a "routine" surgery, only to come down with a hospital-acquired infection(HAI) and become seriously ill or even die.

Healthy eating, exercise, and stress management should be of high importance in your daily routine to help keep you out of the hospital. source

Advanced ERE Pads

The Advanced Electro Reflex Energizer (Advanced ERE) is not just a foot massager; it is effective at producing an ultimate feeling of relaxation and body balancing.

The Advanced ERE comes equipped with 3 sets of Electric Stimulator Pads to pinpoint and stimulate additional areas, such as the neck, shoulders, back and extremities. The pads are very effective on deep, severe bruising, particular muscle groups, and injury sites.

With the Electric Stimulator Pads you can target the tummy, hips, and thighs to "break up excess fat deposits".

Place the pads on areas of pain such as the tops of the shoulders, in between the shoulder blades or low back area. Never place pads on the spine or on the front and back of the heart.
