Compressed Fractures Aided with Rehab

Due to the results of my recent MRI test, Dec. 6, 2011 and experiencing excruciating pain along with back muscle spasms, I was led to Foothills Sports Medicine Physical Therapy in Gilbert, Arizona, from the urging of my daughter and her friend, Lucy, both Physical Therapy students at A.T. Stills University in Arizona.

On my arrival at Foothills, Dec. 9, 2011, Allen Gruver, owner and head physical therapist, evaluated my symptoms and viewed my MRI results, which included 6 compressed fractures (T7, T8, T9, T11, T12, L1) arthritis and multilevel degenerative disc disease . He proceeded to teach me the proper way of breathing called abdominal or deep breathing, then sent me home for the weekend to practice.

During the following weeks, my Foothills therapy sessions included electrical stimulation of my back, a daily massage using Myofascial Release techniques (see picture above), and a list of beneficial exercises, that included, stretching with bands, using the arm and foot stationary bikes (see picture below), and a multiple of exercises geared to strengthening my back.

On Feb. 7, 2012 I flew home with a renewed stronger back thanks to the skilled therapists at Foothills Sports Medicine Physical Therapy and their advanced rehab methods used (based on the Postural Restoration Institute approach), methods you probably won’t find in most physical therapy centers.

Dangers of Salt Restriction - Weston A. Price Foundation Warns FDA

The Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) has warned the FDA that plans for salt restriction pose a health threat to Americans of all ages.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has entitled their document, "Approaches to Reducing Sodium Consumption," which signals to us, the American people and to the WAPF, that the FDA has already decided, our sodium intake should be reduced.

According to Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, "A study from 1991 indicates that people need about 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt per day, anything less triggers a cascade of hormones to recuperate sodium from the waste stream, hormones that make people vulnerable to heart disease and kidney problems. This is proven biochemistry. Yet, FDA as well as USDA want to mandate drastically restricted sodium consumption at about 1/2 teaspoon per day."

Testimony from the Weston A. Price Foundation noted that salt plays a critical role in body physiology and brain function. In the elderly, lack of salt is associated with increased hip fractures and cognitive decline, low salt in growing children predisposes to poor neurological development.

Recent studies, according to "Food Salt Essential to Life, Health" show a correlation of salt restriction with increased heart failure and with insulin resistance leading to diabetes. Studies show that even modest reductions in salt cause an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Higher incidence of inflammatory markers and altered lipoproteins are also found by researchers evaluating those on salt reduced diets. These factors are precursors to metabolic syndrome, which predicts heart problems and diabetes.

The elements in salt, sodium and chloride, form the basis of cellular metabolism, they are needed for digestion.

"Our biggest concern is that with FDA dictates against salt, manufacturers will add imitation salt flavors, like Senomyx to processed foods," says Fallon Morell. "Marketed as a food, so it does not require testing, and added in amounts so small that it does not need to be labeled, this compound can interfere with our natural taste for salt, leading to severe deficiencies, or, people will become obese as they eat more and more, trying to satisfy the body's need to eat."

Those opposing the safety and health benefits of raw milk will be Attorney Fred Pritzker from the Pritzker & Olson Law Firm along with Dr. Heidi Kassenborg, Director, Dairy & Food Inspection Division, Minnesota Department of Agriculture.

At one time, everyone drank raw milk, but, with the invention of pasteurization and homogenation, consumption of raw milk in this country almost completely disappeared. In fact, in some states it is illegal to sell raw milk, but, a growing segment of the population is clamoring for increased access to raw milk, citing its nutritional benefits and recently discovered inbuilt safety mechanisms. Opponents are skeptical of such nutritional claims and believe the safety risks of unpasteurized milk are simply too high.

Cooking Oatmeal the Right Way with Video

Soaked Oatmeal

Ingredients

2 cups rolled organic oats

2 cups filtered water

4 TBL lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, or yogurt

1 tsp. sea salt

Instructions

Mix, in a pot, the oats, water, and lemon juice, apple cider vinegar or yogurt. Cover and leave on the counter for at least 7 hours or overnight. Soak the oats longer if you have trouble digesting grains, for as much as 24 hours.

After soaking time is complete, add 2 additional cups of water, preferably filtered water, to the soaked oats mixture, add sea salt and bring to a boil. Cook for 5 minutes.

Best served with butter and/or cream for optimal assimilation of minerals. A natural sweetener, nuts, raisins or other fruit may be added as desired.

On January 8, 2012, Steelers fans rejoiced to see their team rush in from behind to tie the game with Denver 23-23 and in 12 seconds it was over. Broncos QB Tim Tebow threw a bullet to Demaryius Thomas who ran the ball for an 80-yard touchdown. It was over, the Broncos won their first playoff victory since 2006.

The Broncos had lost four out of five games when Tebow took over as starting quarterback toward the beginning of the 2011 season, and soon the young rushing miracle was leading his team to a winning record.

When the Sunday evening game statistics were totaled, several stats jumped out to his fans that almost defy coincidence. Tebow had 316 total passing yards, as well as averaging 31.6 yards per each completion, and to top that, CBS rating peaked at 31.6.

In college, Tebow routinely scrawled Bible verses into the eye black beneath his eyes on game days. At the 2009 BCS championship game, Tebow wore "John 3:16" under his eyes, a practice criticized by some commentators.

In response, the NCAA's Playing Rules Oversight Panel voted to ban words, numbers, logos or symbols on eye black, which took effect in the 2010 season and was soon dubbed the "Tim Tebow Rule". In fact, the NFL had already banned such artistry, so Tebow has been unable to display favorite verses this season.

After Sunday's win, Tim's focus wasn't on his 25-yard game-winning bullet, but on his teammate, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who caught the pass and ran it for the touchdown. He praises Jesus Christ and he builds up his teammates.

"(Thomas) made a great catch and a great run after the catch. Our offensive line blocked phenomenal." Tebow said. "DT made a heck of a play." Football is a team sport, and Tebow never takes credit for what his team members do.

FDA Alert for Excedrin, Bufferin, Gas-X, NoDoz

The FDA, over the years have found problems in the drugs made by the Novartis Consumer Health manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Nebraska and as of Sunday, Novartis has temporarily suspended production at their factory and have recalled:

Excedrin and NoDoz products with expiration dates of Dec. 20, 2014, or earlier
Bufferin and Gas-X Prevention products with expiration dates of Dec. 20, 2013, or earlier

Novartis wants consumers to discard the pills or to return the products by mail for a full refund, plus Novartis will also apply $2 for shipping costs. Novartis's site www.nodoz.com/otc/ is available for more information as well as calling the company direct at 888-477-2403, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. EST.

Because of packaging and labeling problems at the plant in Nebraska, Edward Cox of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said early Monday, "it's possible that tablets from one product may have been retained in the packaging machinery, and then may have carried over into the packaging of another medicine, this could result in an incorrect pill of one medicine ending up in the bottle of another product."

Rachel's Cure by Design Story

Targeting Leukemia Stem Cells with an Omega-3 Fatty Acid

Penn State researchers Sandeep Prahbu (right) and Robert Paulson sketch out a delta-12-protaglandin J3, or D12-PGJ3. The compound, derived from fish oil, targeted and killed the stem cells of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, or CML, in mice.

According to Penn State researchers, Sandeep Prabhu, associate professor of immunology and molecular toxicology in the Department of Veterinary and Medical Sciences, and Robert Paulson, associate professor of veterinary and biomedical sciences, a fish oil compound produced from Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), an Omega-3 fatty acid, delta-12 protaglandin J3, or D12-PGJ3, targeted and killed the stem cells of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, or CML, in mice.

The researchers, who released their findings in the current issue of Blood, said the compound activates the p53 gene that programs the death of the cancer-causing stem cells in the mice's spleen and bone marrow.

The experiments consisted of injecting each mouse every day for a week with about 600 nanograms of D12-PGJ3. Tests concluded that the mice were completely cured of the disease, their blood count was normal, and the spleen returned to normal size.

"The important thing is that the mice were completely cured of leukemia with no relapse," said Prabhu.

In leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells, killing the stem cells is extremely important, since stem cells can divide to make more cancer cells, as well as create more stem cells.

According to the American Cancer Society, about 5,150 new cases of CML are reported annually, approximately 270 people die from the disease each year and the average person's risk of getting CML is about 1 in 625.

The researchers, who applied for a patent, are also preparing to test the compound in human trials.

MD-Logic Artificial Pancreas Tested

Prof. Moshe Phillip, director of the Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Schneider Children's Medical Center, demonstrates MD-Logic on a young patient.

The MD-Logic, developed by Eran Atlas along with Prof. Moshe Phillip, Dr. Revital Nimri and Shahar Miller of the Schneider Children's Medical Center in Tel Aviv, mimics the workings of the pancreas, monitoring blood sugar levels and delivering insulin automatically, even at night.

The MD-Logic is the first system of its kind to be tried outside the hospital with resounding success. Recently the researchers set up a control room at a hotel where 18 Israeli children between the ages of 12 and 15 attended a 3 day camp for children with diabetes.

In type 1 (insulin-dependent, juvenile-onset) diabetes, the pancreas doesn't produce or release insulin as it should, so, in turn, the body can't metabolize sugars properly, meaning, blood sugar levels need continuous monitoring, even while sleeping, when blood sugar readings can get out of control.

The MD-Logic Artificial Pancreas, that "thinks like a doctor", consists of a glucose sensor and an insulin pump connected to a laptop computer that can be carried in a backpack or set beside the bed, monitoring information and stipulating the amount of insulin to be released in order to maintain blood glucose balance.

The next stage is to test the device under supervised conditions in the home setting.

The researchers believe that the MD-Logic will give kids with diabetes and the adults who supervise them, a worry-free night's sleep.

Before being sold in the US, the MD-Logic will need the approval of the FDA.

Mouse in Mountain Dew?

The maker of Mountain Dew soft drinks is defending itself against claims by an Illinois man that he found a mouse in his soda can.

The man, Ronald Ball, says he gave the mouse to Pepsico Inc., manufacturers of Mountain Dew, in a canning jar in 2009. Ball said he bought the soda out of a vending machine and after discovering the mouse, he became violently ill.

According to a report in the Madison Record, Pepsi cited testimony of a scientist who said that if the mouse had been in the soda since its bottling, its body would have dissolved into a jelly-like substance, because of the acidity in Mountain Dew.

Veterinarian Lawrence McGill said, "If a mouse is submerged in Mountain Dew between four and seven days, the rodent 'will have no calcium in its bones and bony structures.' After 30 days, 'all of the mouse's structures' will be disintegrated."

McGill concluded, "This mouse had not been born when the can of Mountain Dew was produced."

Conclusion: Take note of what the scientist and veterinarian are saying, if Mountain Dew can do what they claim it can do to a mouse, imagine what it does to humans, no wonder we have so many cases of osteoporosis, cancer (cancer thrives in an acidic environment), and the list goes on.

What Are GMOs?

What exactly are GMOs? GMOs are "Genetically Modified Organisms", the process of combining the genes of separate organisms to engineer a new one, such as, corn with modified DNA to produce its own pesticide.

Chemical companies like Monsanto and Dow are feeding us genetically-modified food, GMOs, that have never been fully tested and aren't labeled.

Natural and Organic Cereal Findings

The Cornucopia Institute, based in Wisconsin, is a progressive farm policy research group, that researches and investigates agricultural issues that provides information for consumers, family farmers, and the media.

The Cornucopia Institute is recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) public interest group.

A new research study from The Cornucopia Institute indicates that the "natural" claims in the cereal and granola aisle are misleading consumers. Cornucopia and USDA research finds GMOs, and toxic pesticide residues in "natural" cereal ingredients and many of these brands are often priced higher than equivalent organic products.

Sweet Potato Experiment

From the mouths of babes:
Elise wanted to learn how long it would take for a sweet potato to grow vines.

Elise and her grandmother went to the store and bought a sweet potato, put it in a glass of water and waited 6 weeks, no vines.

She asked the produce manager, "why didn't my sweet potato grow any vines?", his response, "these will never grow vines, at the farms, they spray them with a chemical called Bud Nip, you should try one of our organic sweet potatoes."

Elise then did the test with the organic sweet potato, after 1 month it did grow some small vines.

Then Elise and her grandmother went to an organic food market and purchased an organic sweet potato, did the test and within one week it sprouted.

Bud Nip is sprayed on other vegetables and fruits, such as, blueberries, onions, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, beets, and cranberries, saturating the whole produce.

Bud Nip is a chemical known as Chlorpropham, when tested on animals, it may kill or even cause tumors.

Rolling Dog Farm rescues and shelters disabled animals on their farm in the beautiful White Mountains of northern New Hampshire.

Every animal, no matter if it is a blind and/or deaf dog, cat or horse or even those with other neurological and orthopedic disablilities, who arrives at the Rolling Dog Farm, gets another chance to have a safe and loving home. Their residents come to them from humane societies, animal control shelters and rescue groups from across the US.

Thanks to the support of donors, these animals are able to have a second chance. The Rolling Dog Farm is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that is supported entirely by private contributions. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

History of Rolling Dog Farm
In December 2000, Alayne and Steve left their corporate jobs in Seattle and moved to a 160-acre ranch in the Blackfoot River Valley of western Montana creating a special place for animals with disabilities, who are often the least likely to be adopted and among the most likely to be euthanized in traditional shelters.

They named their shelter the "Rolling Dog Ranch Animal Sanctuary", the name fit perfectly, the dogs just loved to roll around on their backs in the sagebrush and grass covered meadows.

In 2010, Alayne and Steve moved their operations to a beautiful 120-acre property in the White Mountains of northern New Hampshire and renamed their sanctuary to "Rolling Dog Farm".

Miniature Wunderland Train Display

The "Miniature Wunderland" is the world's largest train set. As of the summer of 2010, the area it covered measured 1,300 sq. meters or 14,000 sq. ft.

The Miniature Wunderland features almost eight miles of track and is still not complete, the expected finished date is sometime in 2020. At completion the train set would cover more than 2,300 sq. meters or 24,757 sq. ft. with almost 13 miles of track.

Twin brothers, Frederick and Gerrit Braun, 41, began work on the Miniature Wunderland in 2000.

The set covers six regions including America, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Germany, and the Austrian Alps.

The American section features giant models of the Rocky Mountains, Everglades, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas with more than 30,000 lights, Miami, Area 51, Cape Canaveral and so on.

The Scandinavian part features Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland with real water, the Northern Lights, high & low tides, Arctic Sea, moose, navigating ships and snow.

The Miniature Wunderland consists of 930 trains with more than 14,450 carriages and wagons, the longest train being 14.51 meters or 46 ft.

The scenery includes 228,000 trees, 1270 signals, 3660 buildings, 8850 cars - many with illuminated headlights.

There are 215,000 individually designed figures.

The 250,000 lights are rigged up to a system that mimics night and day by automatically turning them on and off.

The whole system is controlled from a massive high-tech control center.

All total, as of the summer of 2010, the set has taken 580,000 hours and more than 12 million euros or 15.6 million dollars to put together, the vast majority of which has come from ticket sales, totaling almost 1 million visitors each year.

Cancer Tumor Destruction Method

Researchers at Tel Aviv University have developed a tumor destruction method that also creates immunity to the cancer's return.

A radioactive wire, less than an inch long and about the width of a pin, when inserted into a solid tumor, releases lethal radioactive atoms that irradiate the tumor from the inside out, as the tumor breaks down, it releases antigens which then trigger an immune response against the cancerous cells.

Diffusing Alpha-emitters Radiation Therapy (DaRTTM), developed by Prof. Yona Keisari of TAU's Sackler Faculty of Medicine and Prof. Itzhak Kelson of TAU's Department of Physics and Astronomy, has strengthen the odds in favor of permanent tumor destruction.

According to Prof. Kelson, the wire is coated in atoms that emit not just alpha particles, but also daughter atoms which are themselves alpha emitters. These particles diffuse inside the tumor, spreading further and further before disintegrating. The process takes approx. ten days, leaving only non-radioactive and not-toxic amounts of lead, while the wire itself, decays harmlessly in the body.

In pre-clinical trials on mice, one group of mice were treated with surgical tumor removal, while the other group underwent ablation treatment using the radioactive wire. When cells from the tumor were re-injected into the mice, 100% of those treated surgically redeveloped their tumor, compared to only 50% of those treated with the radioactive wire. Lung, pancreatic, colon, breast, and brain tumors have been researched with excellent results.

Also to note, Prof. Keisari along with Prof. Rafi Korenstein of TAU's Sackler Faculty of Medicine has developed a second ablation technique, called pulsed electric current ablation, where electrodes are inserted into tumors and emit electrical currents to create a chemical reaction that destroys the tumor.

Anti-Stress Action of Beta Glucan

Numerous studies (currently more than 5,000 publications) have shown that beta glucans exhibit immune properties, including, antibacterial and anti-tumor activities.

As the glucans are more and more frequently used as an anti-stress agent, the University of Louisville along with the University Hospital Krc, Prague, Czech Republic, compared four commercially important glucans and their effect on stress in the study entitled, "Anti-Stress Action of Serveral Orally-Given B-Glucans".

As noted in the study, while all four glucans showed some ability to inhibit stress-related inhibition, only glucan #300 from Transfer Point was able to return the phagocytosis to a normal level. Also, Transfer Point #300 was able to completely block the stress-related increase in corticosterone release as well as keeping IL-6 and IL-12 secretion above control (PBS) levels.

Stress is a physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation. It can be defined as a reaction to any stimulus or interference that upsets normal functioning and disturbs mental or physical health. The true inspiring story behind the song, "Where's the Line to See Jesus?":

While at the mall a few years ago, Becky's then four year old nephew, Spencer, saw kids lined up to see Santa Claus. Having been taught as a toddler that Christmas is the holiday that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, he asked his mom, "where's the line to see Jesus?"

Becky's sister mentioned this to her father, Steve Haupt, who immediately became inspired and jotted some words down to the song in just a few minutes.

After putting music to the words, and doing a quick home recording, he received a great response from friends. Her father then asked Becky if she would record the song to see what could happen with it.

Becky listened to the song, made a few changes and headed to Shock City Studios.

Out of the mouths of babes come profound truths that many adults can not understand. Hopefully Spencer's observation will cause people all over to reflect on the love of Jesus, and that one day we will all stand in line to see Him.

Dairy Free Banana Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream

2 frozen bananas, chopped into 1-inch slices (peel and freeze at least on day in advance)

1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice*

1/4 - 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Place the chopped bananas into a food processor, and process on high speed until a crumbly consistency is achieved.

Remove lid, scrape down the sides and sprinkle in the pumkin pie spice.

Process on high (scraping the sides, as needed) until the banana crumbles come together to form one large mass and the texture resembles ice cream.

Transfer the mixture to bowls, sprinkle with walnuts (optional).

Serves: 1-2

In a recent survey published online January 24, 2011 entitled, "A Gradient of Childhood Self-Control Predicts Health, Wealth, and Public Safety" studied more than 1,000 children from birth to age 32 and found that the kids who scored lowest on measures of self-control - those who were more impulsive and easily frustrated and had the most trouble with delaying gratification or waiting their turn in line - were roughly three times as likely by adulthood to report having multiple health problems and addictions, earning less than $20,000 per year, becoming a single parent or committing a crime than kids with the most self-control.

The findings above seem to agree with tests conducted years ago, one such being, "The Stanford Marshmallow Experiment". Walter Mischel of Stanford University conducted a deferred gratification study in 1972 using marshmallows.

Over 600 children ages four to six at the Bing Nursery School located at Stanford University were each led into a room, empty of distractions, where a marshmallow was placed on a table. The children could eat the marshmallow, the researchers said, but if they waited for fifteen minutes without giving in to the temptation, they would be rewarded with a second marshmallow.
Mischel observed as some would "cover their eyes with their hands or turn around so that they wouldn't be able to see the tray, others starting kicking the desk, or tugged on their pigtails, or stroke the marshmallow as if it were a tiny stuffed animal", while others would simply eat the marshmallow as soon as the researchers left the area.
The results: A minority ate the marshmallows immediately, while a third deferred gratification long enough to get the second marshmallow.

Over the years, Mischel has conducted follow-up studies, his 1988 study showed when the preschool children from his Marshmallow Study, who delayed gratification longer, became adolescents, their parents rated them as more academically and socially competent, verbally fluent, rational, attentive, planful, and able to deal well with frustration and stress.

Another study in 1990, entitled, "Predicting Adolescent Cognitive and Self-Regulatory Competencies From Preschool Delay of Gratification: Identifying Diagnostic Conditions", showed that the ability to delay gratification also correlated with higher SAT scores. Those who delayed longer in preschool were rated as more likely to exhibit self-control in frustrating situations, less likely to yield to temptation, more intelligent, and less distractable when trying to concentrate. They also are more likely to attend college, getting good grades, they also tend to have a lower body mass index (BMI), a clean criminal record and when the time comes, a higher annual income.

Children who were able to put up with temporary discomfort in exchange for a future reward are now more successful in almost every measurable way.

Thanksgiving Proclamations in Review

On October 3, 1789, our first President, George Washington, issued the Thanksgiving Proclamation which set aside Thursday, November 26, as "A Day of Public Thanksgiving and Prayer." The decree appointed the day, "to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor."

On September 28, 1863, Sarah Josepha Hale, a 74 year old magazine editor, wrote a letter to President Abraham Lincoln, urging him to have the "day of our annual Thanksgiving made a National and fixed Union Festival", because prior to this, each state scheduled its own Thanksgiving holiday at different times, mainly in New England and other Northern states. President Lincoln responded to Mrs. Hale's request immediately, the document below sets apart the last Thursday of November "as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise".
"...I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and Union."

On November 11, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, signed Proclamation 2571, which listed Thanksgiving Day and New Year's Day, 'Days of Prayer', "...It is fitting that we recall now the reverent words of George Washington, 'Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection,' and that every American in his own way lift his voice to Heaven. I recommend that all of us bear in mind this great Psalm:
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

On November 16, 2011, President Barack Obama, writes in his 2011 Thanksgiving Proclamation, "...In times of adversity and times of plenty, we have lifted our hearts by giving humble thanks for the blessings we have received and for those who bring meaning to our lives. Today, let us offer gratitude to our men and women in uniform for their many sacrifices, and keep in our thoughts the families who save an empty seat at the table for a loved one stationed in harm's way. And as members of our American family make do with less, let us rededicate ourselves to our friends and fellow citizens in need of a helping hand. As we gather in our communities and in our homes, around the table or near the hearth, we give thanks to each other and to God for the many kindnesses and comforts that grace our lives. Let us pause to recount the simple gifts that sustain us, and resolve to pay them forward in the year to come."

Probiotic Help Protect Intestine From Radiation Damage

Researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., have found that one probiotic appears to protect the small intestine from radiation damage.

The lining of the small intestine is very sensitive to radiation and it often gets injured when patients receive radiation therapy to treat abdominal cancers like, prostate, cervical and bladder cancer. Along with the bone marrow, the lining of the small intestine is one of the most radiation sensivtive organs in the body because that is where cells proliferate most actively according to William F. Stenson, MD.

Stenson says, "It's very important to protect the intestine because the lining of the intestine is one cell thick and they separate the rest of your body from all of the bacteria that are in your GI track. If that epitheliam breaks down, one of the consequences is that the bacteria that normally resides inside your intestine would have the opportunity to travel through your body and cause sepsis."

Dr. William Stenson with co-investigator Matthew A. Ciorba, MD, and their team gave mice a probiotic called Lactobacillus rhamnosus and they found that it protected the intestine from radiation damage, but the key is to give the probiotic before the radiation injury.

Dr. Stenson goes on to say, "The bacteria that we used is very similar to the bacteria thats in yogurt and the numbers of bacteria that we used are consistent with whats found in commercially available probiotics."

The researchers reported their findings in the journal Gut.

Chicken Nuggets Are Made How?

In Jordan Rubin's latest book, Live Beyond Organic, he writes of how chicken nuggets are made on pages 35 & 36. Live Beyond Organic is Jordan Rubin's 24th book on health, he started writing soon after recovering from his diagnosed Crohn's disease, plus he exhibited symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, diabetes, extreme anemia, heart problems, urinary tract and prostate infections, yeast (Candida) overgrowth, parasites, and multiple viral infections.

Jordan writes, "After chicken meat has been removed from the carcasses on the assembly line, there's still a little meat left on the bone, plus some tendons and tissue. Back in the day, millions of these carcasses were buried in a landfill or burned in an incinerator, but machines were invented to mechanically separate those scraps of meat and muscle fiber."

Jordan goes on to say, "The mechanically separated poultry, or MSP, is run through a grinding machine that turns the meat remnants into a pink goop that resembles strawberry frozen yogurt being dispensed at your local mini-mall. Nobody wants to bite into pink chicken nuggets, so food colorings and artificial flavorings are added to bring back the whitish color and deliver the taste that we've always associated with cooked chicken breast."

Jordan's biggest problem with conventional meat is that cattle, chicken, and fish are raised and fattened on feed containing hormones, nitrates, and pesticides. On top of that, livestock and chickens are penned up on "factory farms" that confine thousands of animals in impossibly cramped conditions with zero access to sunlight, fresh air, or natural movement.

Gov. Targets Major Egg Supplier

Sparboe Farms is the subject of an ABC News investigation to be broadcast today, Friday, Nov. 18th, on "20/20" and "World News with Diane Sawyer" and was cited Thursday by the FDA for "significant and serious violations" in the production of their eggs.

The FDA issued a company-wide warning letter to Sparboe Farms, the country's 5th largest egg producer, citing serious and significant violations at five different locations. The FDA cited at least 13 violations of the recently enacted federal egg rule meant to prevent dangerous salmonella outbreaks.

The ABC News broadcast will include undercover video taken over the summer inside Sparboe facilities in three states by the animal rights group, Mercy for Animals, that appears to show unsanitary conditions and repeated acts of animal cruelty.

The Mercy for Animals activist who went undercover to record the video inside Sparboe told ABC News chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross, "I saw workers do horrendous things to birds, they were thrown, grabbed by the neck, they're slammed in and out of cages."

Can Our Immune System Be Trained to Kill Cancer?

A year ago, when chemotherapy stopped working against his leukemia, William Ludwig signed up to be the first patient treated in a bold experiment at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Ludwig, then 65, a retired corrections officer from Bridgeton,

N.J., felt his life draining away and thought he had nothing to lose.

Doctors removed a billion of his T-cells - a type of white blood cell that fights viruses and tumors - and gave them new genes that would program the cells to attack his cancer. Then the altered cells were dripped back into Mr. Ludwig's veins.

At first, nothing happened, but after 10 days, he began shaking with chills, his temperature shot up, his blood pressure shot down. He became so ill that doctors moved him into intensive care and warned that he might die. His family gathered at the hospital and feared the worst.

A few weeks later, the fevers were gone. And so was the leukemia.

There was no trace of the leukemia anywhere - no leukemic cells in his blood or bone marrow, no more bulging lymph nodes on his CT scan. His doctors calculated that the treatment had killed off two pounds of cancer cells.

A year later, Mr. Ludwig is still in complete remission, "I have my life back," he said.

Dr. Carl June, who led the research and directs translational medicine in the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, said that the results stunned even him and his colleagues. When Mr. Ludwig began running fevers, the doctors did not realize at first that it was a sign that his T-cells were engaged in a furious battle with his cancer. Source

How to Select Quality Farm Fresh Raw Milk

Is it possible that the farm fresh dairy you are buying is not healthy? There is a difference, milk comes either from A1 or A2 cows. A1and A2 milk refers to the different type of casein (protein) in milk from different breeds of cows. What type of cow your fresh milk comes from is critical to your health.

Holstein cows - Black & White cows that are typically associated with dairy and milk, who don't produce much cream in their milk. These are the A1 Beta Casein type and reports have linked this type to heart disease and other diseases.

Jersey, Guernsey, Asian or African cows - are the more traditional breed of cows that produces thicker milk with more cream and have the A2 Beta Casein present in their milk.

In Non-Homogenized/Non-Pasteurized Farm Fresh Milk, the fat rises to the top and forms the cream line. People judge the quality of their milk by the size of the cream line. The bigger the cream line, the better quality of milk.

It is important to know that nearly ALL the dairy from the store is from the WRONG kind of cow, the milk is then Pasteurized (heated) and Homogenized (the process where they break down the fat in the milk into tiny pieces so that the fat distributes evenly in the milk), it is also full of antibiotics, steroids, pesticides, etc.

A Salute to Our Veterans

Today, Nov. 11th, marks Veterans Day, a holiday that honors those who have died or fought in all of America's wars. Nov. 11th is the anniversary of the end of World War I, "The Great War." Fighting ceased and an armistice between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. The Treaty of Versailles was signed at the Palace of Versailles in France seven months later.

In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11th as the first commemoration of Armistice Day and it has been observed since, though the date has changed several times. An Act of Congress approved in 1938 made Nov. 11th each year a legal holiday. The original concept for the celebration was a day observed with parades, public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11 a.m.

The 83rd Congress, at the urging of veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the "armistice" and inserting in its place the word "verterans." With the approval of this legislation in 1954, Nov. 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all wars. Not only does it preserve the historical significance of the date, but also helps to focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day; a celebration to honor America's veterans both living and dead for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Estimated cost of this abortion was between $10,000 and $16,000.

The call was placed on October 12, 2011, to Southwestern Women's Options, a late-term abortion clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico, that made headlines when a similar undercover call revealed that late-term abortions are being done at tax-payer expense on healthy women with healthy pregnancies.

Medicaid Pays For Late-Term Abortions With Our Tax Dollars

An investigation conducted by Operation Rescue and Project Defending Life shows millions of tax dollars are already paying for abortions each year. Operation Rescue has released this short video containing excerpts from an undercover recording showing that Medicaid pays not only for abortions, but completely covers for third-trimester abortions for no medical reason whatsoever.

Operation Rescue has identified 15 states where Medicaid funds pay for abortions. Those states are Alaska, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia.

Bill Allows Minors HPV Shot Without Parental Consent

Contraversal HPV Bill AB499 goes into effect today in California allowing minors the HPV shot without their parent's consent.

Governor Jerry Brown took this action , making it possible for 12 year old children to get innoculated , with out parental knowledge or consent, for the Gardasil (HPV vaccine) and/or Hepatitis B vaccine. These shots can be administered at the doctor's office or even at school in the nurse's office. It is also important to note, any new vaccines for sexually transmitted diseases that are released in the future will be covered by this law as well.

The state of California has made the decision that their 6th graders are competent to read and properly digest the 30 page package insert for the Gardasil vaccine, to fully understand the benefits and risks of this vaccine, and to make an informed consent decision.

And, does this Insert mention the 100-200 deaths already associated with this vaccine, to date.

On Fox News, Rebecca Estepp, who is the communications director for the Elizabeth Birt Center for Autism Law and Advocacy, debates with Sally Lieber, former CA state assembly woman, who previously introduced a bill making the Gardasil vaccine mandatory for 11 year olds, but had to remove her name when it was discovered that her family was heavily invested in Merck.

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
Ingredients - makes 1 quart

3 egg yolks
3 cups heavy cream, preferably fresh, raw cream from grassfed cows. Do not use ultrapasteurized cream.
1/2 cup Grade B maple syrup
1 TBL organic vanilla extract
1 TBL arrowroot powder
2 TBL vodka - (optional - used to soften and improve scoopability of the ice cream straight out of the freezer)

Instructions

Beat egg yolks briefly in a large, glass bowl. Do not use regular store eggs. Preferably use local, free range eggs washed in warm, soapy water before cracking. Organic store eggs are ok in a pinch.
Beat in remaining ingredients and pour into your ice cream maker. Follow your ice cream machine directions for how long the ice cream is churned. When the ice cream is frozen and ready (about 15-20 minutes), pour into a shallow, glass baking dish. Cover with a lid and keep in the freezer.

Note: Commercial Ice Cream has added many toxic and unlabeled chemicals in their ice cream, for instance, Piperonal, for example, is used in place of vanilla and is a chemical used to kill head lice. Also, Propylene Glycol, a cosmetic form of antifreeze, is added to commercial ice cream. Gardasil HPV Vaccines Found Contaminated

SANE Vax, Inc. recently tested vials of Gardasil in their laboratory and found over a dozen Gardasil vaccine viles to be contaminated with rDNA of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The vials for testing were purchased in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Poland and France, indicating Gardasil contamination is a global concern.

The rDNA that was found to be contaminating Gardasil is not "natural" rDNA from the HPV virus itself, rather, it is a genetically engineered form of HPV genetic code that is added to the vaccines during their manufacture.

As Dr. Sin Hang Lee, pathologist at SANE Vax, Inc.said: "Natural HPV DNA does not remain in the bloodstream for very long. However, the HPV DNA in Gardasil is not 'natural' DNA. It is recombinant HPV DNA (rDNA) -- genetically engineered -- to be inserted into yeast cells for VLP (virus-like-particle) protein production. rDNA is known to behave differently from natural DNA. It may enter a human cell, especially in an inflammatory lesion caused by the effects of the aluminum adjuvant, via poorly understood mechanisms. Once a segment of recombinant DNA is inserted into a human cell, the consequences are hard to predict. It may be in the cell temporarily or stay there forever, with or without causing a mutation. Now the host cell contains human DNA as well as genetically engineered viral DNA."

What all this means is that through Gardasil vaccines, innocent young girls are being injected with the recombinant DNA of HPV, and that this biohazardous substance persists in their blood.

Take for instance, Christine Richelle Tarsell, a daughter every parent dreams of having: an honors student, active in sports and her community, and a talented artist. Two years ago Chris had her first gynecological appointment, the doctor suggested she have this "safe" vaccine. 18 days after her third injection of the Gardasil HPV Vaccine, Chris died.

No one connected her death to the vaccine until several weeks later when her father heard on the TV that there were deaths possibly related to Gardasil. They began to investigate and discovered that the reactions Chris experienced during her previous shots, others had the same reactions.

The Arizona Dust Storm (The Haboob) that took Valley residents by surprise July 5, 2011 around sunset was a rare monster that reached theatrical proportions.
The Haboob spawned a 100-150 mile plume of dust more than 5000 feet high, moving at 50-60 mph from NW Tucson along Interstate 10 throughout the Valley before petering out in Yavapai County.

Our marvelous ears - How do they work?

When a sound strikes your ear, your eardrum vibrates with the sound waves, fast or slow, soft or hard. These variations in vibration provide us with important information about the nature of the sound we are hearing. Some sounds produce a vibration in the eardrum as small as a billionth of a centimeter - only one-tenth the diameter of a hydrogen atom.

There are three tiny bones in the middle ear called the hammer, anvil and stirrup, these bones form the bridge from the eardrum into the inner ear. They pick up the vibrations from the eardrum, amplifying them even more, before safely transmitting them on to the inner ear or cochlea via the oval window.

The inner ear, or cochlea, resembles the circular shell of a snail, and houses a system of tubes which are filled with a watery fluid. As the sound waves pass through the oval window, the fluid begins to move, setting approximately 25,000 tiny hair cells in motion. These tiny hairs transform the vibrations into electrical signals that travel along the auditory nerve to the brain.

Our hearing is designed to be more sensitive to high-pitched sounds than to lower sounds. If we had just a little more sensitivity to lower-pitched sounds, we would continuously be distracted by the internal sounds of our body, including the blood rushing through our arteries. In fact, to help prevent this, there are no blood vessels at all in that part of the ear where vibrations are turned into electrical impulses.

Apples and Celery top the list of most pesticides found in fruits and vegetables, Strawberries come in at third, according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

The EWG's 2011 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce ranks pesticide contamination for 53 popular fruits and vegetables based on an analysis of 51,000 tests for pesticides on these foods, conducted from 2000 to 2009 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the federal Food and Drug Administration. Light At Night Cancer Link Possible Obesity Link

Evidence for Light At Night (LAN) cancer link and possible obesity link.

A new study from the Center for Interdisciplinary Chronobiological Research at Israel's University of Haifa has found an additional link between Light At Night (LAN) and cancer.

The researchers, headed by Prof. Abraham Haim, hypothesized that LAN harms production of melatonin, a hormone that is released from the pineal gland during the dark part of the 24-hour cycle and which is linked to the body's cyclical night-day activity and seasonality. When this hormone is suppressed, the occurence of cancer rises.

The researchers noted that, "Exposure to LAN disrupts our biological clock and affects the cyclical rhythm."

Earlier studies at the university have shown that people living in areas that have more night-time illumination are more susceptible to prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women.

In one of these earlier studies, according to Haim, artificial Light At Night cancels out the sun's natural setting time, the body's continuous exposure to high levels of light disrupts the biological clock and thereby damages the circadian regulation of body cells, tissue, organs and systems.

"Watching TV at night can cause obesity, not only due to inactivity and overeating, but also because it upsets the body's natural daily cycle. Chapter three of Ecclesiastes says, 'Everything has an appointed season, and there is a time for every matter under the heaven.' " said Prof. Haim

Toxic Food Dyes

For commercial reasons, food manufacturers are adding toxic food colorings to our foods. The European Union recently placed regulations on labeling food dyes to alert consumers of health risks, but the United States has not followed suit.

According to the Food Freedom Network, below are some of the most common toxic food dyes used today:

1) Blue #1 (Brilliant Blue) - An unpublished study suggests that Blue #1 (Brilliant Blue) causes kidney tumors in mice.

Blue #1 is used in: Baked goods, beverages, desert powders, candies, cereal, drugs, and other products.

2) Blue #2 (Indigo Carmine) - Blue #2 (Indigo Carmine) causes tumors, particularly brain gliomas, in male rates.

Blue #2 is used in: Colored beverages, candies, pet food, and other foods and drugs.

3) Citrus Red #2 - Citrus Red #2 is toxic to rodents at modest levels and causes tumors of the urinary bladder and possibly other organs.

Citrus Red #2 is used in: Skins of Florida oranges

4) Green #3 (Fast Green) - Green #3 (Fast Green) has caused significant increases in bladder and testes tumors in male rats.

Green #3 is used in: Drugs, personal care products, cosmetics, candies, beverages, ice cream, sorbet, and externally applied cosmetics.

5) Red #3 (Erythrosine) - Red #3 (Erythrosine) was recognized in 1990 by the FDA as a thyroid carcinogen in animals and is banned in cosmetics and externally applied drugs.

Red #3 is used in: Sausage casings, oral medication, maraschino cherries, baked goods, and candies.

6) Red #5 - Red #5 was banned for a very long time because it was suspected that it made children hyperactive. Red #5 belongs to a class of chemicals called "polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons," which studies suggest are carcinogens. But since these chemicals only cause cancer when injected, not ingested, the FDA keeps them legal.

7) Red #40 (Allura Red) - Red #40 (Allura Red) is the most widely used and consumed dye. It may accelerate the appearance of immune-system tumors in mice. It also causes allergy like reactions in some consumers and might trigger hyperactivity in children.

Red #40 is used in: Beverages, bakery goods, dessert powders, candies, cereals, foods, drugs, and cosmetics.

8) Yellow #5 (Tartrazine) - Yellow #5 (Tartrazine) causes hypersensitivity reactions and might trigger hyperactivity and other behavioral effects in children.

Yellow #5 is used in: Pet foods, numerous bakery goods, beverages, dessert powders, candies, cereals, gelatin desserts, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

9) Yellow #6 (Sunset Yellow) - Yellow #6 (Sunset Yellow) causes adrenal tumors in animals and occasionally causes severe hypersensitivity reactions.

Yellow #6 is used in: Colored bakery goods, cereals, beverages, dessert powders, candies, gelatin desserts, sausage, cosmetics and drugs.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest recommends, "Because colorings are used almost solely in foods of low nutritional value (candy, soda pop, gelatin desserts, bakery, etc.), you should simply avoid all artifically colored foods."
